First Release
Sep 03, 2007
By: John Carpenter
Our first internal release went out today with very little fanfare but a ridiculous amount of work. If it wasn't for the occasional foosball game and beer or two I might very well have lost my sanity trying to get everything complete in time. It always seems that no matter how much you plan and project, there always seems to be a rush of work to get the game finished in the end. Any longer and I might have had my own “EA spouse” at home.
In the end I am glad to be part of this team. The game looks amazing and the gameplay really brings a new element to the mobile environment. The production is top-quality and it has some of the best visuals for a mobile game that I have seen.
We managed to get a lot of features in the game that I didn't expect to make it in the final version. We've added a new Capture-the-flag style gameplay as well as a standalone version for when you don't feel like running around. The next months worth of testing will determine if we are going to keep those modes in the game.
We're in Austin next week testing out the game in field. It'll be good to test out how the interaction between the users and the game is managed in a real world environment.
